Travel

For those traveling to Milwaukee from other areas or who are unfamiliar with the area, the local organizing committee has developed the following resources:

Airport and Local Transportation

  • Transportation to-and-from General Mitchell International Airport (MKE), includes information about Ride Share services, car rental facilities, licensed taxis, and public transportation.
  • The Milwaukee County Transit System is easily accessible in Milwaukee. Take the Green Line or Route 80 line from the airport to downtown and hotel accommodations. Plan your route here through Milwaukee County Transit System’s official website.
  • Milwaukee Bike Share: Bublr Bikes

Parking

  • Parking is available on a first-come, first- served basis, and is subject to a daily fee.
  • On-site parking is available for delegates, guests and others staying at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center and at the Baird Center.
  • Additional parking information for the Baird Center can be found HERE, along with daily prices.
  • Registered delegates are eligible to receive a 20% discount for parking at the Baird Center Garage. Please email us at conferences@scbnorthamerica.org to receive the “Attendee 20% Discount Pass.”

Personal

  • If you are planning on driving into the conference, you can find an additional list of public parking lots in downtown Milwaukee here: https://www.milwaukeedowntown.com/getting-around/parking. Some of these parking lots will offer overnight parking but not all.
  • Note: The Hilton Milwaukee City Center, our main conference hotel and room block, offers parking for their customers/guests for a daily fee ($38 USD).

VISA/International Travel

It is important for travelers to check the specific requirements based on their nationality and the purpose of their visit before planning their trip to the United States. The official website of the U.S. Department of State provides detailed information and resources regarding entry requirements for visitors to the United States.

Please note that for most international travelers a Visitor Visa is required.  If this applies to you, it is highly advised to start the application process as early as possible.

*If you need a Letter of Invitation (also known as a Conference Invitation Letter) for visa-application purposes, please contact conferences@scbnorthamerica.org with your request.

**NOTE: Neither SCBNA nor SER, the SER-MWGL Chapter, or the conference Organizing Committee can assist in procuring a visa for travel to our conference other than by providing the above-mentioned Invitation Letter.

Climate

Milwaukee, WI typically experiences warm and moderately humid weather in July. While heatwaves are possible, extreme temperatures are relatively rare. Days are often sunny and warm, but evenings can still be cool near the lake. Rain is more common in Milwaukee than in some other summer destinations, so brief showers or thunderstorms are possible.

We recommend packing breathable clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat for sun protection. Light layers are still helpful for cooler evenings or indoor spaces with air conditioning. Don’t forget comfortable walking shoes, as most field trips will involve a lot of walking, and a light rain jacket or compact umbrella just in case.
