Student Travel Awards

Funds are now available for small Student Travel Awards to Toronto, Ontario, Canada  to attend the fourth North American Congress for Conservation Biology (NACCB). Allocation of funds is highly competitive and will be made based on a combination of demonstrated need for assistance and an assessment of how beneficial this meeting will be for the student applicants given their academic career stage and their conservation vision. Domestic and international students at an institution within the US, Mexico, and Canada are eligible to apply. However, because of limited funds, we will not consider students attending school outside of these countries. Only students with an accepted talk or poster will be considered for a Student Travel Award. Notifications about accepted abstracts will be issued in mid-March.

The purpose of the Student Travel Award is to enable attendance of students who would otherwise not be able to participate in the meeting. Student Travel Awards will range from approximately $100 – $300 and are intended to provide partial financial support. Therefore, only students who cannot find full funding from other sources should apply for the Student Travel Award. We expect and encourage the applicants to find additional sources of funding. We encourage you to apply for a Chapter Travel Award if you are a Chapter member (opportunity coming soon). A third option for funding is to apply to volunteer at the conference to receive up to a $75 reimbursement (capacity is limited, sign ups for volunteer positions are located in the conference registration form).

To apply, please complete the Student Travel Award Application form. Deadline for completing the form is March 30, 2018. The NACCB Student Affairs Subcommittee will review all applications and issue award notices  by the week of April 15. Successful applicants will be notified via e-mail and have until April 20th to accept the award.  Funds will be issued to other candidates if the committee does not receive a notice of award acceptance by this date.  Funds will be issued to awardees at NACCB.

We look forward to receiving your application!
